Notes from February 2008

I arrived safely back in PdP on Jan. 23.

Sorry, I haven`t written before now. I have been busy with visiting groups, and we have had a few technical difficulties with the email.

Tuesday, Feb. 5, I went up to visit the village of Dity (a two hour hike above Anse-a-Foleur) to take some pictures of a new school that is being constructed there. It is a beautiful walk along the river, between mountains--and not much uphill.

Since it was the Carnaval/Mardi Gras holiday, the kids did not have school.

Many of the young boys were playing with tops.
When they release the top, they can pick it up with the string while it is still spinning. Then they balance it on their hand.

Marcos Reubens was particularly talented. I asked if he could keep it balanced on his head---and after a few tries, he succeeded.

Behind them, a young carpenter was completing a coffin for an impending death.
